Zion's Youth Ministry
Youth Groups at Zion
There are opportunities for youth in grades 5 through 12 to be involved in youth group activities at Zion. ZYG is the high school group for 9th through 12th grade. ZAG is the group for middle school students in grades 5 to 8. These groups meet on Sunday evenings for times of fellowship and learning. Service activities are also an important part of our youth schedule. We have a bi-annual Amazing Race in which teams race to complete service around the town and around the church.
Yearly mission is also an important part of our program. We have a three year cycle which includes the ELCA Youth Gathering (New Orleans in 2012, Detroit 2015, Houston 2018, Minneapolis 2021), local mission, and distant mission.
Mentoring is also a very important part of our youth ministry at Zion. Each youth in grades 5 and up is paired with an available, affirming, and authentic (AAA) adult in the congregation for activities and conversation.
Youth in grades 7 and 8 participate in our Confirmation program. There are 3 retreats per year for a total of 6. Youth are required to attend these, engage in service to the church and community, complete assignments outside of church, and attend church.
